Exploring the Wilderness at Hickory Run State Park
Over the past few weeks, we had the chance to explore Hickory Run State Park. Covering nearly 16,000 acres, the park’s 44 miles of trails offer the perfect way to immerse yourself in the beauty of NEPA’s wilderness
We began our adventure by hiking some of the park’s most popular trails. Boulder Field, Hawk Falls, and Shades of Death captivated us with nearly every step. Tunnels of rhododendron, tumbling waterfalls, and the massive glacier-made field of boulders all showcased the awe-inspiring power of nature, reminding you just how profound its forces can be.
Next, we made our way to Nescopeck Lake. The lake is known to be a popular swimming spot during the hot summer months, but during the cool mornings that arrive later in the season, it transforms into a peaceful escape.
Our final stop was the new and improved nature center where we were immediately drawn in by the interactive displays. Each section provided a deeper understanding of the park’s unique ecosystems, providing a hands-on learning experience that’s fun for all ages. Definitely a must-see for anyone planning to visit the park.
