Kayaking the Delaware River: A Wild & Scenic Paddling Adventure With Edge of the Woods Outfitters

Last week, we set out on a kayaking trip on the Delaware River with Edge of the Woods Outfitters — the perfect summer escape. From the moment we arrived, they made everything easy. Gear rentals were a breeze, and a quick bus ride shuttled us from their shop in Delaware Water Gap to our launch point at Smithfield Beach. Hours later, they met up with us at the Kittatinny Boat Launch to bring us back. The trip was stress-free and simple.

The Delaware River itself? Absolutely stunning. Calm waters created glassy reflections of the sky and tree line. The Delaware ran crystal clear, letting us see straight down to the rocky substrate — even in the deeper stretches. It felt like looking back in time, a glimpse of the river as it may have appeared hundreds of years ago.

And we weren’t the only ones enjoying it. Kayakers, paddle boarders, swimmers, and tubers dotted the waterway, each soaking in the same beauty. Even the wildlife sat peacefully enjoying the view. It’s no wonder the Delaware River is one of the most celebrated rivers in the country. As the largest undammed waterway east of the Mississippi, it flows wild and free — pristine and full of life.
