It wouldn’t be Lent in NEPA without a stop at your local volunteer fire company. From Friday night fish fries to handmade pierogies and trays of lenten pizza, volunteer fire companies across the region are back at it with the seasonal favorites we all look forward to.
You’ll find classic lenten fish fry dinners along with shrimp and crab cakes, Polish staples like haluski, halupki, pierogies and potato pancakes, pizza, mac & cheese, homemade soup and even batches of chocolate Easter eggs made the old-fashioned way. Whether you observe the season or you’re just in it for the food, these lenten specials are a delicious way to support the volunteeers who serve and protect our communities year-round.
Check each fire company’s Facebook page for dates, times and ordering details. Some sell out fast, some take pre-orders and some are first come, first served — but all of them are worth the stop. Bring cash, bring your appetite and plan on leaving with a few extra pierogies — and maybe a chocolate Easter egg or two
