Handmade Delights and Family Fun

The smell of sautéed butter and fried onions drifting through the Valley can mean only one thing – it’s time for the annual Edwardsville Pierogi Festival. For two days each June, this tiny community in Luzerne County throws the biggest party of the year for the treasured fluffy potato as the unofficial, official favorite Polish food of NEPA.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, the grounds of the John J. Hopkins Memorial Park welcomes thousands of visitors to taste test that beloved potato dumpling. Food vendors and trucks, crafters and artisans, merchandise vendors, live entertainment, carnival rides, a petting zoo and pony rides make for a fun, family-friendly outing.

Pierogi. Pierogi. Pierogi.

The festival gets underway Friday at noon with live entertainment and concludes with a firework’s display at dusk. Things kick off Saturday at 11 a.m. as the popular Pierogi Festival parade marches down Main Street to the High Street Park. Then, at 2 p.m., local home chefs battle it out in the pierogi cookoff challenge for top honors with the best potato and cheese pierogi in NEPA.

Bring your appetite. Sample pierogies – from traditional fried and sautéed varieties to innovative new recipes and even dessert options. More than 10 pierogi vendors, including NEPA’rogi and the Polish Connection, will be on hand, as well as 25+ other food vendors and trucks.

Kids will especially love the carnival rides, games and pony rides. Live music throughout two-day festival makes for a fun outing for everyone. Enjoy great food, local bands and browse over 50 vendors.

Hosted by the nonprofit Edwardsville Hometown Committee, this year’s celebration coincides with the 140th Anniversary of the incorporation of the town. The committee uses funds from this event and others to improve the quality of life for the citizens of the borough by sponsoring family-friendly events throughout the year.

Take part in this milestone pierogi party and fireworks display and enjoy some classic (and tasty) NEPA fun while supporting this great cause.
