Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts | Live theater & music at Marywood University in Scranton
The Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts at Marywood University in Scranton is a premier venue for music, theater and dance in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Home to the university’s vibrant performing arts scene, this center welcomes the public year-round for concerts, plays and student showcases. Featuring the 1,100-seat The Sette LaVerghetta Center Theatre and the flexible Black Box Theatre, the space hosts performances from both seasoned professionals and Marywood’s talented students.
Throughout the academic year, the center presents a full calendar of events featuring Marywood’s ensembles, including Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Wind Symphony, Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. These performances, held on the Munley Theatre’s main stage or in the more intimate Black Box setting, offer a glimpse into the creative excellence of the Music, Theatre & Dance programs housed within the Michael and Dolores Insalaco School of Visual and Performing Arts.
Originally built in 1952 as Assumption Hall and later renamed in 1999 in honor of Angela Sette LaVerghetta ’48 and her husband Frank, the venue has been a key part of Marywood’s campus for decades. It was further distinguished in 2022 when the main stage was named the Munley Theatre in recognition of Sister Anne Munley, IHM, Marywood’s 11th President. Today, it features a proscenium stage, orchestra pit, state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, multiple grand pianos and a large electronic organ.
Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts remains a leading destination for live performances and cultural enrichment in Scranton.
