Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame | Celebrating legends & lifting future athletes
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame, also known as the John Louis Popple Chapter, is a nonprofit organization that honors outstanding athletes and contributors to athletics from Luzerne, Bradford, Sullivan, Wyoming, and Northern Columbia counties. As one of 28 sanctioned chapters of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the organization preserves regional sports history while supporting young athletes’ futures.
Honoring Athletic Achievement
Since its founding, the Hall of Fame has inducted hundreds of athletes, coaches, managers, and sports contributors. As of 2022, the chapter had honored 689 local inductees and 37 state inductees who have brought distinction to Pennsylvania through excellence in athletics and leadership in sports.
Supporting the Next Generation
Beyond preserving legacy, the organization invests in student-athletes through annual scholarships. These awards are available to students in eligible school districts and help recognize academic and athletic excellence while easing the financial burden of higher education.
The Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame continues to celebrate the region’s sports legacy while encouraging the development of future champions across Northeastern Pennsylvania.
