Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association | Protecting raptors and inspiring nature lovers in Kempton
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association is the nonprofit organization behind Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, the world’s first refuge for birds of prey. Founded in 1934, the sanctuary protects 2,600 acres of pristine ridge-and-valley habitat and remains one of the top destinations in North America to witness the fall hawk migration. Visitors come from across the country to hike the trails, enjoy sweeping views and watch hawks, eagles and falcons soar overhead.
A Leader in Raptor Conservation and Research
Beyond its scenic overlooks, the sanctuary is home to a global center for raptor conservation. The Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association conducts world-renowned scientific research, tracking migratory patterns and studying the health of raptor populations. Each year, the organization hosts international trainees, visiting scientists and university students who contribute to conservation science and bring new knowledge back to their own communities.
Educational Programs That Inspire Action
Education is central to Hawk Mountain’s mission. The association offers a wide range of programs for children, families, and educators—from hands-on workshops and school field trips to summer camps and lectures. Their events often integrate science, nature, and the arts to build a stronger connection between people and the environment.
The work of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association is made possible through trail and membership fees, generous donations and dedicated volunteers who help maintain trails and support programs.
