Anthracite Labor History takes place at the Anthracite Heritage Museum in Scranton on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, inviting the public to celebrate Charter Day—Pennsylvania’s 345th birthday—with a free program focused on the region’s labor legacy.
This event features a series of talks exploring key people, movements, and conflicts that shaped anthracite coal communities. Presentations include Lucia Dailey, Independent Scholar, on “Msgr. John J. Curran: The Labor Priest of Anthracite,” Thomas Mackaman of King’s College on “The Industrial Workers of the World in Anthracite, 1907–1916,” Robert Schmidt, Independent Scholar, on “Radical Means, Conservative Ends: Understanding Dynamite Bombings in the Anthracite Region,” and Robert Wolensky of King’s College on “Labor Rebellion during the 1930s: The United Anthracite Miners of Pennsylvania.”
