National Geographic Live: The Untold Story of Sharks | F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, Wilkes-Barre

Sunday, March 1, 2026 | 7:00 PM

National Geographic Live: The Untold Story of Sharks takes place at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 7:00 PM, exploring the science, history, and conservation of sharks through National Geographic storytelling and a live presentation from shark researcher Dr. Jess Cramp.

Sharks have existed since long before the dinosaurs, yet much of what is known about them has only emerged in recent decades. This program draws from National Geographic archives to highlight the overlooked contributions of 20th-century women who helped lead shark science, while also diving into the modern conservation work shaping the future of these ocean predators.

Audience members will follow Dr. Cramp’s research and fieldwork in the South Pacific, learning what shark protection looks like in practice and why conservation policy, community engagement, and sanctuary efforts matter.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Jess Cramp is a shark researcher specializing in conservation policy and community-based ocean management. She co-led the grassroots campaign that helped establish the Cook Islands Shark Sanctuary in 2012—an area exceeding 770,000 square miles—and serves as founder and executive director of the nonprofit Sharks Pacific, which focuses on research, outreach, and advocacy across the Pacific Islands region.
