Spring Racing Starts Here
As the snow melted and the days grew longer, we at the Wyoming Valley Striders found ourselves looking back on a winter full of determination, consistency, and preparation. No matter how you trained—through freezing temps, on treadmills, or during those rare mild days—winter was all about building the foundation and focusing on progress over perfection. Now, spring has arrived, and it’s time to put that training into action.
We officially kicked off our racing season last month with the Winter’s End 4.5 Mile Run, and what a start it was. With 216 entrants, this year’s race matched last year’s record, marking the highest number of registrations since 1987. Coming off our 50th anniversary celebration last year, the energy at the race was undeniable, and the support and enthusiasm set the tone for what’s shaping up to be an incredible year!
Winter’s End wasn’t just a great race—it also marked the first leg of the WVS Vince Wojnar Triple Crown and served as the first eligible race for our new WVS race team. If you’ve been thinking about getting more involved, there’s still time to sign up for the team and be part of something special. It’s a great way to stay motivated, connect with fellow runners, and get rewarded for doing what you already love.
Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run
Now, as we move fully into spring, we’re excited to keep the momentum going with two upcoming races that showcase the beauty and energy of the season.
First up is the Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run Run on Sunday, April 26, at Kirby Park at 9:00 AM. This race is a local favorite that’s been around for over half a century and is still running strong. It’s the perfect opportunity to test your early-season fitness. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best, looking to enjoy a great run, taking on the Triple Crown, or part of the WVS race team, this event is for you.
Spring Trail 5.3 Mile Run
Then, on Sunday, May 17, we’ll host the Spring Trail 5.3 Mile Run/Jen Stec Memorial at Frances Slocum State Park, starting at 11:00 AM. This age-group graded race brings a different kind of challenge, taking runners off the pavement and onto the trails with a staggered start based on age. It’s a meaningful event that combines competition and remembrance, making it a powerful experience for all who participate.
Don’t Miss Your Chance to Race
Registration for both races closes at noon on race weekends, so don’t wait to sign up! Runners do not need to be club members to participate. Our events are open to everyone—from seasoned runners to first-time participants.
Spring is here, and the miles you logged this winter are about to pay off. There’s no better way to celebrate than by joining us on race day. To learn more about our spring races, visit our website.
