New Year, New Run: Join Us on January 1st

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! 2026 is just around the corner, and with it come all those New Year’s resolutions to become a better version of ourselves. If getting active is on your list, we’ve got the perfect way to help you start the year off on the right foot—surrounded by supportive people who love to cheer each other on.

As we wrap up our 50th anniversary year, the Wyoming Valley Striders are excited to keep the celebration going. On Thursday, January 1, 2026, we’ll ring in the new year with the 41st Annual Informal New Year’s Day Social Run at Kirby Park. There is no cost to attend, and the event is open to everyone, celebrating both tradition and true Striders spirit. No matter the weather, we always show up to start the year off right.

Celebrating Friendship and Fun

This is the perfect event to jumpstart your New Year’s fitness goals in a relaxed, friendly environment. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual jogger, or someone who prefers to walk, this event is all about you. There are no time limits, no pressure to run fast or far—just the joy of meeting up with old friends, making new ones, and setting out to accomplish whatever distance feels right for you. Pets are welcome, so feel free to bring your dogs!

What to Expect

We’ll gather in the parking lot at Kirby Park to sign in and meet up with friends. If you’re thinking about renewing your membership or joining the Wyoming Valley Striders, this is the perfect time to do so! Dues are $10 per year. There may even be a special promotion, so be sure to stop by our table for more details. After a quick noon group photo at the bench dedicated to our co-founder, Vince Wojnar, it’s off to the races—or walks! Whether you plan to run 5 miles, take a leisurely stroll along the levee, or enjoy a scenic walk through the park, you’ll find plenty of people to join you at any pace.
