Professionally Designed "Action Park" Opens in the City of Wilkes-Barre

Yesterday we attended the grand opening of the Wilkes-Barre City Skate Park at Hollenback. And judging by the size of the crowd, this is something the skate, bike, and scooter community has been eagerly awaiting.

We arrived just before Mayor George Brown took to the stage to officially announce the park’s opening. However, the 10,000 sq. ft., professionally designed park was already filled with extreme sport enthusiasts. “Today is the completion of a dream.” Mayor Brown said as he addressed the crowd, “For years to come they’re going to have a place to go now thanks to our collective efforts to get this done”.

The park takes up a small plot within Hollenback Park and can easily be seen from Wilkes-Barre Blvd. The park is made up completely of concrete and is suited with ramps, rails, and quarter pipes.

The feel of the day carried west coast vibes as visitors of all ages enjoyed the park. Music was provided by local artists, The Crates. Plains Bike Shop and Zumiez Dickson City also added to the excitement with contests and giveaways. Parlor Beverages and The Ice Cream Truck kept everyone cool with their signature sodas and ice cream.

The Wilkes-Barre Skate Park at Hollenback is for athletes of all ages and skill levels and is open from dawn to dusk.

We had a great time yesterday and we’re sure when you visit the park you will, too! Check out some of the images we captured below.
