Scenic, Public Waterfall Locations for All to Enjoy

As many of NEPA’s rivers and lakes iced over in the last few weeks, we figured it would be a perfect time to check out some popular, local waterfalls. The crisp air and picturesque landscapes made for an energizing, outdoor escape. And, instead of dreading the cold, we found that these waterfall hikes offered a different perspective towards braving the chilly weather.

We kept it close to the city with our first stop at the icy wonderland of Nay Aug Gorge at Nay Aug Park in Scranton. And even the snowy trails couldn’t stop us from snapping a few serene shots at Little Rocky Glen Preserve in Factoryville. Then, we headed to Blakeslee for a glimpse of Tobyhanna Creek as it thundered and cascaded over icy rocks at the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area. Finally, we made our way to one of NEPA’s most photogenic roadside stops – Buttermilk Falls on White Haven Rd. in Bear Creek. It did not disappoint.

If you’re looking to cure your winter blues, consider exploring these local waterfalls. And if you want a sneak peek at some of NEPA’s stunning winter scenery, check out our highlights below.
