Little League East Region Junior Softball Championship Tournament Runs July 17 – 22 At Wilkes University’s Ralston Complex Softball Stadium
From Thursday, July 17, through Tuesday, July 22, the top junior softball teams from all over the Northeastern U.S. will duke it out in the Junior Softball Championship Tournament, a double-elimination tournament. The winning team will advance to the Little League Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washington. The regional tournament, hosted by PA District 16-31 Little League, will take place at Wilkes University’s Ralston Athletic Complex in Edwardsville.
The East Region tournament includes 8-12 top teams from Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The 2025 participating host team will be the Greater Wyoming Area Little League. All teams and their families will also take part in an opening banquet and dance party at the Woodlands Inn on Wednesday, July 16.
The Little League East Region Junior Softball Championship Tournament will be hosted via partnership between Little league PA District 16-31, Visit Luzerne County, The Luzerne Foundation and Wilkes University.
Bringing a bit of national attention to NEPA
The tournament, according to PA District 16-31 Administrator, Bob Bertoni, will showcase not only youth sports in NEPA, it will also shine a spotlight on the region as a whole. “NEPA should be excited, because we are welcoming over 150 families from the Northeastern part of the US,” Bertoni said. “They will come to see what NEPA has to offer! Also, every game will be livestreamed throughout the US.” Visit PA District 16-31 for direct links to live streams during the tournament.
The 5-day tournament, previously hosted in Orange, Connecticut for over 30 years, has now become an annual Luzerne County event. “We have been awarded this tournament (via official bidding process) and we have it until we decide to give it back,” according to Bertoni.
And while it will undoubtedly draw economic traffic to Luzerne County, Downtown Wilkes-Barre and local hotels and restaurants, for Bertoni, it’ll be a major source of inspiration for NEPA’s young athletes. “Our local players can come and witness a high-level tournament and what it takes to get to this level. it will motivate our own young little league softball players to try and get to this level,” he said.
