The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in Dingmans Ferry invites visitors to connect with nature through hands-on experiences, guided programs, and six scenic hiking trails. Located within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, PEEC offers year-round access to environmental learning, outdoor recreation, and exploration for individuals, families, and groups of all ages. Whether you’re a hiker, educator, or just looking to enjoy the outdoors, PEEC delivers a unique gateway to Northeastern PA’s wild side.
PEEC operates as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and serves as the official education partner of the National Park Service for the region. Its mission centers around environmental awareness, sustainability, and appreciation for nature through immersive programming and natural science education. Visitors can enjoy weekend workshops, guided nature walks, summer camps, and events focused on biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable living.
Six Unique Hiking Trails
PEEC’s six loop trails range from short and accessible to longer, more challenging hikes:
- Fossil Trail (1.03 miles): Features a ravine and fossil outcrops.
- Ridgeline Trail (3.63 miles): For experienced hikers—rock ledges and scenic woodland.
- Scenic Gorge Trail (1.5 miles): Combines hardwood forest with a hemlock canopy.
- Tumbling Waters Trail (3.01 miles): Includes waterfalls, scenic views, and “Killer Hill.”
- Two Ponds Trail (1.4 miles): Easy loop with wildlife viewing.
- Trail for Everyone (0.2 miles): Stroller- and wheelchair-friendly, with benches and activities.
PEEC is open daily from dawn to dusk, and trail maps are available on-site or online.
