Mission Statement

Rail-Trail Council of NEPA works to renew Northeastern Pennsylvania’s historic pathways as recreational trails for all to enjoy.

Rail-Trail Council of NEPA | Trails, history & outdoor fun in Union Dale

The Rail-Trail Council of NEPA is a nonprofit organization based in Union Dale, PA that transforms historic railroad beds into vibrant multi-use recreational trails. Through ongoing trail development and maintenance, the Council connects communities and promotes healthy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, running, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Preserving History Through Recreation

The Rail-Trail Council currently maintains the D&H Trail in Union Dale and the O&W Trail in Carbondale. Restoration efforts are also underway on the Endless Mountains Trail in Montrose. These trails not only preserve local railroad history but also offer scenic, year-round experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Events That Engage & Educate

Throughout the year, the Council hosts a variety of events that encourage public participation and outdoor learning. Activities include guided hikes, bike rides, races, yoga classes, and wildlife education programs. These events invite people of all ages to explore the trails and connect with nature.

Community-Powered Trail Stewardship

The Rail-Trail Council relies on dedicated volunteers and member support to keep its trails accessible and beautiful. Donations and memberships directly fund trail upkeep and expansion, ensuring safe, well-maintained pathways for future generations.

The Rail-Trail Council of NEPA continues to inspire healthy living, conservation, and regional connection through trail development in Union Dale.
