The Ballet Center at The Conservatory at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre has been shaping dancers since 1983. Formerly known as the Degnan Ballet Center, this premier program offers classical ballet instruction rooted in the traditions of Russia’s Kirov Ballet. Students as young as three begin with pre-ballet and advance through seven levels of training, guided by highly qualified instructors who nurture artistry, discipline, and self-confidence.
Performance Opportunities
Each year, The Ballet Center showcases its students in beloved performances, including The Nutcracker and a spring recital featuring a full classical ballet production. These annual productions allow dancers to apply their training on stage and experience the thrill of live performance.
Curriculum & Faculty
Classes progress from beginner through advanced levels, with requirements increasing as students develop stronger technique. The curriculum includes conditioning and variations classes, designed to build strength, refine artistry, and support long-term growth. Tuition is structured by the number of weekly classes, and all new students participate in a placement class to ensure proper level placement.
The Ballet Center faculty includes seasoned professionals, many of whom have performed with major ballet companies or taught at respected institutions. Throughout the year, students also benefit from master classes led by guest artists, giving them exposure to different perspectives and training styles.
