Forty Fort Meeting House | Living history & early American architecture in Forty Fort
The Forty Fort Meeting House stands as a remarkable piece of Wyoming Valley history. Located in the Old Forty Fort Cemetery, this historic structure holds the distinction of being the first completed church used for religious services in the region. Built in the early 1800s in the traditional New England meeting house style, the building offers a rare, authentic glimpse into early American religious and community life.
Since its completion in 1807, the building has remained virtually unchanged, preserving its original architecture and interior features. It was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and continues to be owned and maintained by the Forty Fort Cemetery Association.
Today, the Meeting House serves as a vibrant historical site, welcoming guests for a variety of cultural and educational events throughout the year. From May through September, visitors can participate in docent-led tours that explore the building’s unique construction, role in local history, and significance to the community.
