Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area | Outdoor Adventures in the Pocono Mountains
The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area spans 70,000 acres of protected land across Monroe, Pike, and Northampton Counties, as well as parts of New Jersey. Managed by the National Park Service, this scenic area is one of NEPA’s most expansive outdoor destinations. From summer fun on the Delaware River to vibrant fall hikes, this Pocono Mountains treasure offers year-round recreation.
Hiking, Horseback Riding & Biking Trails
With over 100 miles of hiking paths and more than 100 miles of scenic roads, the recreation area is ideal for outdoor exploration. The McDade Recreational Trail stretches 30 miles for biking and walking. The Dingmans Creek Trail leads to waterfalls, while the Tumbling Waters Trail and Cliff Park Trail System provide forest treks, overlooks, and Instagrammable views. The Conashaugh View Trail is popular among horseback riders, and Raymondskill Falls, Pennsylvania’s tallest waterfall, is a must-se.
Delaware River Water Recreation & Fishing
The Delaware River runs through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and is a top NEPA fishing spot. Trout fishing, river kayaking, canoeing, and rafting are popular warm-weather activities. Milford Beach, located near the park’s north end, offers swimming, picnic areas, and boat access. Local outfitters provide rental services for easy water access. Smithfield Beach is prime for swimming, sunbathing, boating, and grilling (with your own grill), Smithfield Beach is a great place to spend a warm day.
