NEPA’s Summer in the City | Nonprofit empowering youth through leadership & local impact in Scranton
NEPA’s Summer in the City (SITC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2022 to combine youth leadership development with community impact across the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. Entirely led by high school students, SITC provides a unique platform where young people turn their creativity and passions into purposeful philanthropy. By identifying local needs and collaborating with qualified 501(c)(3) organizations, the student-led team raises funds, organizes events & builds partnerships that benefit the region while nurturing a generation of civic-minded leaders.
Student-Driven Solutions for Community Needs
Each summer, the SITC team selects a pressing local issue and partners with a nonprofit that aligns with their cause. From there, they mobilize student leaders across NEPA and coordinate a vibrant calendar of public events—from bingos and bake sales to talent shows and festivals—all designed to raise awareness and generate support. These efforts not only benefit the selected cause but also foster essential leadership, planning & communication skills in participating youth.
Building Bridges Between Youth & Community
Beyond the summer season, NEPA’s Summer in the City maintains lasting connections with local nonprofits, schools and municipalities to expand their reach and deepen their impact. The organization is committed to guiding students through every phase of the process, helping them turn their ideas into action while giving back to the communities they call home.
