Join the Wyoming Valley Striders Fall Races

Mark your calendars, gather your friends, and get ready for some fall running! As autumn settles in, the Wyoming Valley Striders are excited to present three races over the next month promising exciting challenges for both distance runners and those who prefer shorter sprints, and each offering a unique experience for runners of all ages and skill levels.

October 27 – 5.5 Mile Trail Run

Join us for the 37th Annual Fall Trail 5.5 Mile Run at Frances Slocum State Park in Wyoming, kicking off our fall race schedule! Since its inception in 2012, this unique age-group graded race features a staggered start, allowing older runners to take off first. This approach fosters an inclusive and competitive atmosphere for all participants.

Rain or shine, trail runners always show up—just like these enthusiastic participants from last year’s race!

The trail run offers a challenging course that invites runners to immerse themselves in nature while competing. Medals are awarded to the top fifteen finishers based on their staggered start times, rather than “net” time, ensuring that most runners finish around the same time.

With an entry fee of just $10 and online registration only, this is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself while enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature in a park setting. Please note that registration closes at noon on Friday, October 25. Race starts at noon.

November 10 – 20K and 5K Runs

Next up is the 11th Annual 20K Run at the Susquehanna Warrior Trail in Shickshinny, which also serves as the final leg of our Vince Wojnar Triple Crown! For 18 years, the Wyoming Valley Striders 20K Classic in Wilkes-Barre was considered the area’s premier long-distance road race. However, in 1993, the race was unfortunately canceled due to traffic control issues. Fortunately, in September 2014, the Striders resurrected this historic race on the D&L Trail in Lehigh Gorge State Park, White Haven. For the last few years, this race has been held on the Susquehanna Warrior Trail.

This race gives seasoned runners the chance to push their limits while newcomers can experience the thrill of a longer distance. Plus, it’s a perfect opportunity for those participating in the Triple Crown to finish strong as they anticipate the final scores. Race starts at 9 a.m.

Happening alongside our 20K, is the new WVS 5K, designed as the goal race for participants in our WVS 5K training program that started last month. This race is an ideal way for new runners to showcase their hard work and dedication, while also offering seasoned athletes a chance to enjoy a shorter distance. Whether you’re racing against the clock or simply looking to enjoy a fun day with friends, the WVS 5K promises to be a great experience. The 5K will begin ten minutes after the start of the 20K.

Each race comes with its own special swag item: the 20K offers runners a commemorative hoodie, while the 5K participants will receive a t-shirt showcasing the race logo. The swag deadlines are coming up later this month, so be sure to register to secure gear! Registration for our November 10 races closes Friday, November 8 at noon.
