Mission Statement

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

The Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA, which includes Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA, Greater Pittston YMCA, and Camp Kresge, are dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Believing that a strong community thrives when investments are made in youth, health, and neighborly support, the YMCA focuses on three key areas: nurturing children’s potential, promoting healthy living, and strengthening community ties.

For 160 years, the YMCA has adapted to the changing needs of individuals and communities while upholding its core mission: to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

The Y is well-known for their wellness programs. Their facilities include fitness centers, pools, gymnasiums and more. They offer group exercise classes, sports leagues and recreational activities for all ages. Prevention programs educate the community about healthy habits and support those who are suffering from chronic illnesses.

Everyone knows the Y for fitness, but it’s also home to a quality childcare center. The Y offers daycare for children ages six weeks through five years old. Their preschool and pre-kindergarten classes prepare kids to succeed in school. They also offer before and after school programs for kids in kindergarten through grade five. In the summer, the Y keeps the fun rolling at Camp Kresge, their 1,100-acre summer camp in White Haven.

Thanks to generous donors, no one is turned away for inability to pay. The Y offers financial assistance to anyone who cannot afford membership or program fees.
