If you’re intrigued by the early years of the iron industry and what part NEPA played in the Industrial Revolution, you should visit Scranton Iron Furnaces. The four colossal stone blast furnaces located in this historic park background are all that remain from the Lackawanna Iron & Steel Company. Started in 1840 as Scranton, Grant & Company, the business had the largest iron production capacity in the United States by 1865.

Scranton Iron Furnaces is open from sunup to sundown throughout the year. The Visitor Center is open on a seasonal basis from April-October and is accessible by car or a historic trolley ride. The Center contains iron and steel making exhibits, an interpretive tour, and a small gift shop.
