Growing a Sustainable Community
The Greenhouse Project in Scranton is a nonprofit that teaches children and adults about whole foods and healthy living. They operate a 3,000-square-foot environmental learning space at the James Barrett McNulty Greenhouse in Nay Aug Park. They also manage two community gardens and a teaching garden.
The Greenhouse Project often hosts free or low-cost programs such as cooking classes, guided nature walks, exercise classes, and more. Educational events and volunteer gardening opportunities teach the community how to grow their own fresh, wholesome food. Many programs benefit local hunger projects and at-risk members in the community.
The Greenhouse Project sells organic plants, herbs and flowers to help sustain their mission. Visit one of their sales to get started growing your own garden.
As a nonprofit organization, The Greenhouse Project is always giving back to the community. Through partnerships with schools, farmers, local businesses, nonprofits and area residents, they provide a variety of educational opportunities and support local food systems.
