Scenic Waterfalls and Breathtaking Valley Views
Join us for a summer hike along the Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail.
The Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail traverses the top of one of the Wyoming Valley’s iconic ridges. The scenic trail is located just south of Wilkes-Barre and convenient to I-81 and State Route 29. It’s a perfectly short, 3.06-mile out and back trail that snakes along beautiful mountaintop ridges. The largely flat trail offers a mix of crushed stone and dirt. Throw in a few logs and some railroad tracks and you have a quintessentially NEPA hiking trail.
A breezy, warm weather walk along the Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail reveals quite a few quirks. From dark caves blowing cool air to a mountain stream and waterfall, this trail offers quite a few unique scenes. You’ll even come upon a cemetery toward the end of the trail. The dense woodlands, babbling stream, remarkable vistas, railroad bridge and cave stand out as Instagram-worthy photo stops.
The Sugar Notch Ridgetop Trail serves as a convenient spot for those looking to get out for a quick walk. Parking is available at both ends of the trail. The trail is maintained by the Earth Conservancy.
