Discover the Past of the Pioneer City
From the coal mining heritage to the D&H Railroad, Carbondale is a city with a rich past. The Carbondale Historical Society and Museum helps to record, gather, and preserve the area’s remarkable history for years to come.
Six local school teachers established the society in 1974. Since then, this educational and historical membership organization has opened a genealogical and local history research center. They also operate a museum with three exhibition galleries, which is located on the third floor of Carbondale City Hall. The galleries are open to the public.
The Carbondale Historical Society and Museum is committed to making local history accessible to the community. They host lectures, programs, exhibits, and events to share the past with the public.
