We popped in for a pint at Log Tavern Brewing – Tafton Taproom. The Milford brewery’s new, second location opened with a soft launch on Friday, March 8. And, after keeping our eye on this project for almost 2 years, there was no way we could pass it up.

The Tafton Taproom, less than 5 miles south of Lake Wallenpaupack on PA-390, sits on a 9-acre hilltop clearing enveloped by the dense green of the Pocono Mountains. Space and nature are the unofficial themes here. And you’ll find ample amounts of both inside and out.

Inside, however, is where the modern, rustic charm of this cabin-in-the-woods-styled taproom shines. Soft, inviting wood tones bounce a sense of warmth from the plank floor to the corrugated steel ceiling. A comfy, hand-crafted bar takes up nearly the length of the space. High tops, tables and plenty of steel stools spread throughout the room. Ample natural light flows along wood grains and weaves in and through the chunky, exposed roof timbers. And it all directs the eye toward a remarkable focal point – a stunning, floor-to-ceiling fieldstone fireplace. Little hint: Get here early if you want to claim the coveted, comfy leather bench and coffee table just in front of the fireplace. Just outside the main building, the taproom expands into a courtyard flanked by two covered pavilions and a staging space for live music during the warmer months.

Onto the good stuff. The taproom’s slate featured 13 Log Tavern beers ranging from stout to pilsner and everything in between. We delighted in the Peanut Butter Sawkill Sweet Stout, Timber IPA and the Irish Red Ale — all incredibly delicious. Non-beer-drinkers can also enjoy cocktails crafted with spirits from nearby Silverback Distillery or delicious wines from neighboring Three Hammers Winery. You can even enjoy non-alcoholic beer and a selection of craft sodas. Snacks like pizza, pretzels and empanadas are available, but the taproom also regularly welcomes a host of NEPA food trucks.
