Small, Kingston Gem with Big Flavors
We recently paid a visit to Something Special in Kingston. And judging by the lunchtime crowd, we weren’t the only ones with that same idea. The adorable eatery offers an expansive menu with a little something for everyone. As always, we were in the market for those tried-and-true customer favorites.
First, we chatted with manager, Colleen Miller, about what makes this little stop a NEPA go-to. “Everything is made from scratch and with love,” she emphasized. And that’s particularly evident in every delicately detailed bakery item and every eye-catching dish leaving the kitchen.
We got a tip that the Lorraine Quiche was the perfect place to start. It arrived gorgeously stacked — fluffy eggs atop a thin, crispy crust. And it paired perfectly with a side salad of grilled Brussels Sprouts, nuts and veggies.
Next, we moved onto the Panko Shrimp Bowl — another local favorite. The golden fried and flaky shrimp showed up surrounded by fresh veggies, savory teriyaki brown rice and a drizzle of sweet chili sauce.
We opted to do a half sandwich and half salad combo next — aka the best of both worlds. The Nicole Sandwich caught our eye. The classic came stuffed with fresh oven-roasted turkey, sliced apples, mixed greens and Swiss cheese. It was delivered on a cranberry walnut bread with a dollop of cranberry mayo. We paired it with a refreshing Apple Walnut Gorgonzola Salad. Perfection!
We rounded out our little foodie tour with Something Special’s famous Chicken Salad. It’s a simple sandwich with chicken, chopped pecans, tangy mayo on a homemade, flaky croissant. It’s oh so, so deliciously crafted. And when coupled with their Corn Shrimp Bisque, it somehow reaches that next level of OMG, I could eat this every day – ness!
Something Special is located at 23 West Walnut Street in Kingston, PA. Be sure to check them out on Instagram and Facebook for a peak at their scrumptious bakery treats and various menu items.
