Wilkes-Barre’s Cool Lunch Spot Since 2005
We recently stopped into Chill Grill, a local favorite in downtown Wilkes-Barre. This cozy restaurant is home to delicious sandwiches, soups, salads and more. They’ve been serving the Diamond City for 17 years, making them a bit of a local landmark.
Chill Grill’s owner, Mary Ellen Higdon, loves so many aspects of the restaurant, but her favorite part has to be the customers. She described her restaurant’s atmosphere like the classic sitcom Cheers, where faithful regulars and friendly, new faces are always stopping in for a midday meal.
We scanned through their menu and daily specials, and the salads caught our eye. The Cobb Salad was packed with a generous helping of mixed greens and piled high with freshly chopped veggies, shredded chicken and crispy bacon. Next, we tried the Greek Salad, which comes with your choice of grilled chicken or steak. It was a tough decision, but we finally opted with the chicken. Tomatoes, sweet peppers, Kalamata olives and feta cheese take this salad to the next level.
We couldn’t leave without some of Chill Grill’s sandwiches. First, we went for the classic Italian sub. It included sliced capicola, salami, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions with a drizzle of Italian dressing on a fresh roll. Then, we went for a Turkey Club. This triple-decker sandwich featured thinly sliced, deli-style turkey with bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted bread. All of the sandwiches are served with the perfect sidekicks: chips and a pickle.
Chill Grill is located at 100 North Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilkes-Barre. Be sure to check them out on Instagram and Facebook to stay in the loop on specials and other menu items.
