Tuscarora State Park in Barnesville offers 1,618 acres of outdoor adventure year-round in Schuylkill County. As one of NEPA’s 18 state parks, it’s a prime destination for nature lovers, families and outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re enjoying scenic walking trails, paddling across the lake or watching wildlife, the park has something for everyone.

The park’s miles of scenic walking trails traverse a mix of forest, meadow and open fields. The Spirit of Tuscarora Trail is a visitor favorite, leading past Tuscarora Lake to the iconic Spirit Tree. Trails are ideal for birdwatching, especially during migration season. In early fall, visitors can spot monarch butterflies in the milkweed fields. Hunting is permitted in designated areas during open seasons.

Tuscarora Lake, a 96-acre reservoir, is a popular fishing spot with warm-water species like bass and panfish. Boaters can launch their own craft or rent kayaks and rowboats. In summer, the sand beach is open for swimming, and the surrounding picnic areas include a pavilion, playground and snack bar. In winter, Tuscarora offers ice fishing, and trails are open for snowshoeing and cold-weather hikes.
