One Hike, Two Incredible Waterfalls – Explore Dingmans Falls Visitor Center

Nestled in the heart of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Dingmans Falls Visitor Center is the perfect place to begin your NEPA waterfall adventure. While you won’t be able to explore all 67,000 acres of this vast natural wonderland in one trip, the center gives you easy access to two of the park’s most breathtaking waterfalls via a single, scenic trail.

The Dingmans Creek Trail begins right at the visitor center and leads you through a lush, shaded hemlock ravine. In just a 0.4 miles, you’ll encounter Silverthread Falls, an 80-foot ribbon of water that drops through a narrow rock chute. Delicate and striking, Silverthread looks almost sculpted—yet it’s entirely the work of nature.

Continue along the smooth, ADA-accessible boardwalk to the star attraction: Dingmans Falls, a majestic 130-foot cascade—the second tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania. A viewing platform at the base offers an up-close look at the powerful rush of water, or you can climb a staircase to the top for a bird’s-eye view of the falls crashing into the pool below. It’s a quick but invigorating climb, and the perspective from above is absolutely worth it.

The trail comes alive in mid to late summer when blooming rhododendron thickets line the path in a burst of color and fragrance, adding even more beauty to your hike.

Inside the Dingmans Falls Visitor Center, you’ll find seasonal educational exhibits, helpful park rangers, and guided waterfall walks that provide fascinating insight into the region’s geology, wildlife, and natural history. The center operates from late May through late October, while the surrounding recreation area is open year-round for hiking, photography, and peaceful nature escapes.
