Stop By for Whole Summer of Fun and Learning At the Everhart

This summer, the Everhart has a host of exciting events, workshops for all ages, and educational programs to keep kids engaged while school is out!

Kicking off the summer events is the Gaelic Gathering at the Everhart on July 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Celebrate Irish traditions at this fun 21 and older Irish-themed event on Friday, July 14. The Gathering takes place on the Museum grounds in beautiful Nay Aug Park and features a slate of Irish food, drink, and music. Click here for more information and to register for the event.

Looking for a fun and creative way for your child to spend their summer? Look no further than the Everhart Mini Masters series, a three-session series beginning July 25! In each workshop from 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., students ages 7–10 will explore different mediums and techniques while creating their own unique piece of art. From painting and drawing to collage and 3D art, each workshop will offer a new and exciting artistic adventure.

Tuesday, August 1: Birds of the Sky Collaging
Tuesday, August 15: Mini Paper Cities 3D Art

The Everhart’s Monthly Workshop series, which celebrates monthly observances, continues this summer with a Parks and Recreation Month Workshop on Saturday, July 22 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with naturalist Jane Frye. Frye will lead a talk on plant identification and a nature walk through Nay Aug Park to learn about foraging. And on August 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Dinosaur Month Workshop, author Sam Chiarelli talks about dinosaurs across time and their eventual transition into birds. During the workshop, participants will learn about creating prints using fossil casts.

On July 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the Scranton Rocks Painting Workshop, Danielle Woodbridge of the Scranton Rocks project comes to the Everhart to explain how the Kindness Rocks project began and how the fulfills the mission of providing inspirational messages on rocks nestled in public spaces. Woodbridge will demonstrate how to paint a kindness rock and how to come up with motivational quotes for the artwork.

Throughout August, the Everhart is teaming up with the Lackawanna County Library System to bring the program Kindness Canvas: Creating Together to children ages 7–10 throughout the region. During this workshop, Everhart Museum Programs Manager Camille Dantone will visit local libraries and work with participants to create a collaborative art piece that celebrates the themes of kindness, friendship, and unity. On September 7, the Everhart is hosting Mead and Greet with Dan Schreffler. At this special 21+ event, you’ll be invited to indulge in the finest mead from Space Time Mead & Cider Works, made from locally-sourced honey! “Mead and Greet” ACA certified pommelier and entrepreneur Dan Schreffler as you enjoy a variety of meads and mead fusions. This event ties in with the Everhart’s newest exhibition, Wild Bees: Photographs by Paula Sharp and Ross Eatman, on view through October 1.

The Everhart’s permanent Dorflinger Glass Gallery is reopened this summer following an extensive reinstallation. A fixture of the Museum since 1969, this Gallery features glass created by the world-renowned Dorflinger glassmaking companies from 1852 through 1921. Dorflinger Glass operated in White Mills, PA for many of these years. This new installation traces the chronology of Dorflinger Glass as represented in the Everhart’s collection and features remarkable pieces from the Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Harrison White Houses.

Beginning September 11 and running every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. until October 30, Learn from a Pro: Fiber Arts with Peg McDade gives fiber lovers of all ages and skills an opportunity to study needle weaving, knitting, crochet, stitchery, and applique/reverse applique with fiber arts pro Peg McDade! The classes will feature a highly interactive environment of cross-teaching and cross-learning as McDade and participants share knowledge and skills.

As always, the Everhart has plenty to see throughout its galleries. On view now through October 1, the Museum’s newest exhibition, Wild Bees: Photographs by Paula Sharp and Ross Eatman, explores the fascinating world of bees through high-resolution, macro photography of native bees and their anatomy, captured in remarkable detail. Sharp and Eatman are the authors of the website Wild Bees of New York, the result of a three-year project tracking, photographing, identifying, and describing more than 120 northeastern bee species for the New York State Park system.
