Discover NEPA is teaming up with Broadway Theatre League of Northeastern Pennsylvania to give you a sneak peek of the shows from the Great White Way headlining Broadway in Scranton’s performances at the Scranton Cultural Center this season.
Pretty Woman Closes Out Exciting Season of Shows
Recently we had an earthquake, an eclipse, sleet, rain, snow and a day that reached almost 80 degrees. Welcome to spring in NEPA! Spring also means that we are approaching the last show of our 2023-2024 season; and what a season it has been. It makes us even more excited for our 2024-2025 season, which will be Broadway Theatre League’s 65th season of bringing national Broadway tours to NEPA.
Pretty Woman: The Musical
First, though, we have another show to discuss. Pretty Woman will be playing at the Scranton Cultural Center from May 17-19 to close out our season. The show will be performed on Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Take advantage of one of these four performances to help us close out one of our most successful seasons in ages.
Tickets are on sale now at the Scranton Cultural Center box office and online. It is also not too late to get a group of 10 or more people together by calling the Broadway Theatre League office at 570-342-7784.
There are few people who have not seen and loved the movie starring Julia Roberts upon which this musical is based. It is a romantic comedy which features a strong score and a familiar story of an underdog coming out on top. This musical will surely have you leaving the theater on a high note. To paraphrase the movie, missing this show would be a HUGE mistake. We hope to see you there.
Summer at Broadway Theater of NEPA
The Lyceum
As the summer approaches, we also want to highlight our summer theatre education program, The Lyceum, which will run from July 8-19. Registration is open now for your school aged children from K-12th grade.
The Lyceum is an intensive summer program which culminates in a show performed by the performing arts group on July 19 and an art exhibit for those children who engage in the visual arts program.
Top notch artists will lead the programs, with the inclusion of several guest artists who have reached the heights of their craft on Broadway and beyond. You can enroll your child today; or simply get more information on our programs on our website. Each child who participates will receive a ticket to one of our Broadway Theatre League performances free of charge thanks to grant money that we have raised for that purpose.
Arts for Life
Finally, we have also initiated an Arts for Life program that provides opportunities for senior citizens at senior centers throughout Lackawanna and Luzerne County. They’ll participate in group activities in the visual arts and learn some great dance moves. These programs are taught by certified instructors who allow our senior citizens to socialize and defeat some of the feelings of loneliness and isolation, as only the arts can do. Seniors participating also get the opportunity to see our shows compliments of Broadway Theatre League through grant money and contributions we receive.
So join us as we close out our 64th season and look forward to our 65th season of bringing Broadway’s best to NEPA. I hope to see you at the theatre!
