Top Fishing Spots in Northeastern PA

Wyoming, PA

You’ll have to get out early to reel in the big ones at Frances Slocum Lake located inside Frances Slocum State Park in Wyoming. The lake offers plenty of fishing access along the shoreline and you can even rent row boats, canoes and kayaks.

Lehighton, PA

Beltzville State Park in Lehighton is home to Beltzville Lake, a 949-acre lake  rumored to be one of the top largemouth bass fisheries in NEPA. It’s also one of the few spots in Northeastern PA where dedicated anglers can possibly land monster striped bass.

Wright Twp., PA

Grab your gear and head out to the Big Wapwallopen Creek Trail in Wright Twp. for some top-notch fishing in Big Wapwallopen Creek’s designated Class A Wild Trout Water. The creek features some  of the highest naturally reproducing trout populations in the region.

East Stroudsburg, PA

Target wild and stocked trout in Brodhead Creek, a 21.9-mile tributary of the Delaware River.  Find plenty of access for fishing at Brodhead Creek Park and the ForEvergreen Nature Preserve in East Stroudsburg.

With plenty of access points throughout the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the mighty Delaware River offers opportunities to haul in trophy trout, muskie, bass and even American Shad during their springtime run from the Atlantic Ocean.

Sweet Valley, PA

Harris Pond in Sweet Valley offers 30 acres of quiet, peaceful scenery along with some exciting fishing action. The pond’s plentiful aquatic vegetation holds trophy largemouth bass, along with a healthy population of panfish.

Harveys Lake, PA

With more than 600 acres and depths over 100 feet, Harveys Lake is prime real estate for some pretty big fish. Smallmouth bass and brown trout are the common catches, but you’re likely to get a few surprises in the mix.

White Haven, PA

Head out to Hickory Run Lake located inside Hickory Run State Park in White Haven for a quiet day on this secluded, trout-stocked lake. Find access to Hickory Run Lake via the gravel road to Boulder Field.

North Abington Twp., PA

You can fish more than 7 miles of shoreline and 198 acres of open water on Lackawanna Lake inside Lackawanna State Park in North Abington Twp. Aspiring anglers, head to Trostle Pond, a 12-and-under spot in the north end of the park.

Access the Lackawanna River at multiple entry points along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail from Scranton to Carbondale. The river offers some of the best brown trout fishing in NEPA.

Drums, PA

Bring the little ones along to Lake Frances, an easily-accessible, 9-acre lake located inside Nescopeck State Park in Drums. The lake features a walking trail, plenty of comfortable access along the shore and lots of stocked trout, bass and panfish.

Hazle Twp., PA

Lake Irena, a 26-acre lake located inside the peaceful Hazle Township Community Park in Hazle Twp. features stocked trout, panfish, bass and more. The lake also features walking trails and sitting areas along the shoreline.

Hawley, PA

As one of the largest lakes in the state, Lake Wallenpaupack can be a fisherman’s paradise if you know how to play it right. Walleye, bass, striped bass and pike are popular catches. Lake Winola, PA

Just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Scranton, the 185-acre Lake Winola offers some great fishing. Hit the water on late spring/summer evenings for the chance to snag some monster trout.

Weatherly, PA

Battle fast-moving rapids and big trout in the mighty Lehigh River. Access the river throughout Lehigh Gorge State Park in Weatherly and Jim Thorpe or along stretches north of the Francis E. Walter Dam. The river also holds bass, pickerel, catfish and more.

Wapwallopen, PA

Lily Lake, found just on the edge of Slocum Twp., is a perfect secret spot for those looking to reel in the big ones. The 160-acre lake is home to northern pike and bass year-round and stocked with trout in the spring and fall.

Dingmans Ferry, PA

Look for sizeable largemouth bass, pickerel and panfish at Pecks Pond, a 315-acre glacial pond inside the Delaware State Forest in Dingmans Ferry. The largely secluded, shallow pond is perfectly-suited for kayak or canoe fishing.

Greentown, PA

The Delaware State Forest surrounds Promised Land Lake, a 422-acre lake inside Promised Land State Park in Greentown. Largemouth and smallmouth bass and pickerel are the popular catch in these waters. The park also offers boat and electric motor rentals by the hour.

Montrose, PA

Fly fishing is the favored method on the pristine Silver Creek and Fall Brook at Salt Springs State Park in Montrose. With many trout clocking in at 18-24 inches, it’s easy to see why avid anglers keep these smaller, lesser-known streams on their list of favorites.

From the New York border to the edge of NEPA in Bloomsburg, the Susquehanna River offers plenty of access for quality fishing. Known largely for its intense smallmouth bass fishing, the river also holds healthy populations of catfish, muskie, northern pike and more.

Barnesville, PA

Add the 96-acre Tuscarora Lake located inside Tuscarora State Park to your list of top fishing spots. Enjoy four seasons of fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass, catfish, pickerel and perch. The lake is also a popular spot for ice fishing in the late winter.
