Welcome to Hazleton, PA – NEPA’s Fastest-Growing City
The City of Hazleton, referred to colloquially as The Mountain City, sits atop Spring Mountain. Its highest point reaches an elevation of almost 1,900 feet, offering the historic city both a lasting nickname and the distinction of the highest incorporated city in Pennsylvania.
As part of the larger Greater Hazleton Area, the City of Hazleton plays a major role in the recent revitalization of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s manufacturing and distribution industries. It’s location just south of the I-80 / I-81 intersection and its proximity to Wilkes-Barre, Scranton and the Lehigh Valley, make Hazleton a convenient home base for the diverse and ever-growing regional workforce.
Hazleton’s position as one of NEPA’s fastest-growing economic and industrial hubs also translates to Main Street. The city’s downtown offers a walkable and culturally-diverse mix of family-owned businesses, proud, local restaurants and plenty of homegrown events and festivals that celebrate both the city’s history and its eclectic spirit of community.
A Community Grows Together
Community events reveal the warm, welcoming heart of Hazleton
Peace, Love, Chalk, a popular, annual event hosted by The Hazleton Art League turns the city’s sidewalks into unique art exhibitions. For three Fridays during the summer, Hazleton’s City View Park becomes the site of Rockin’ the Mountain, a free concert series with live, local music, food vendors and big crowds. And during the holidays, the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress, The Hazleton Chamber of Commerce and Hazleton Parks and Recreation light up Can Do Community Park for Hazleton for the Holidays, an old-fashioned, holiday celebration featuring a popular Night Market and Wassailfest.
For over 75 years, the Hazleton Art League has served as a cultural beacon for both the City of Hazleton and the Greater Hazleton community. Through lively, cultural events, art exhibitions, educational and enrichment activities and art-centered programming, The Hazleton Art League aims to foster community engagement, pride and an enduring spirit of diverse local creativity.
