Vosburg Neck State Park in Tunkhannock is located alongside the dramatic oxburn turn in the Susquehanna River and offers trails with stunning mountaintop vistas. Get in the water with guided river tours with Susquehanna Kayak and Cano Rental. At Salt Springs State Park in Montrose, you’ll find stunning old-growth forests, waterfalls and a bubbling salt spring. And all along Pennsylvania’s 2021 trail of the year, the D&H Rail-Trail features hundreds of miles of serene trails perfect for every level of outdoor enthusiast.
Outdoor activities abound all year, whether you’re frolicking in the sunflowers at Brown Hill Farms, picking pumpkins at Whistle Pig Pumpkin Patch, following the glowing jack-o-lantern trail at Creekside Gardens, enjoying the holiday lights at Stone Hedge Golf Course or hitting the slopes at Elk Mountain Ski Resort.
Fall in love with their adorable, walkable downtowns, including Tunkhannock. The town offers plenty of delicious dining options, from Twigs Cafe and Creekside Inn to award-winning wine and craft beers at Nimble Hill Winery and Brewery. A Peak Into the Endless Mountains Past
Geologically, as part of the Appalachian Mountains chain, the Endless Mountain region doesn’t actually consist of true mountains, but instead a dissected plateau that is part of the Allegheny Plateau. The Catskill Mountains are the highest level of the plateau, located to the east of the Endless Mountains, and separated from them by the Delaware River. The highest peak in the region is the North Knob of Elk Mountain at 2693 feet.
Did You Know?
The Tunkhannock Viaduct is the world’s longest concrete railroad bridge. Built for the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad in 1912, the span rises 300 feet above its deepest foundation pit and is 2,375 feet long.
